Like much of the nation, Vermont has been faced with extreme weather this spring: flooding, hail, high winds and more. Lake Champlain is at an all-time high, causing devastating floods along the shore. This week, we’re joining singer Jamie Lee Thurston, in support of Lake Champlain flood victims. Money raised at Thurston’s show — including our $500 donation — will help the Red Cross provide service and support.

Thurston has lived in Nashville for the last 15 years, but he grew up in the Green Mountain State and returns frequently to perform for longtime fans. “I spent part of my life growing up in the Champlain Islands and it holds a special place in my heart,” Thurston says. “When I was a teenager, we endured the Flood of ’83 in Isle la Motte, and really, as a kid, I felt powerless. This year, as I sat at home in Nashville in the comfort of my living room, watching the news about the historically high waters on Lake Champlain and the damaging effects, I knew I had to do something to help.” Thurston will be joined by musician friends in Chittenden County and surrounding areas who are donating their talents for the performance.

A sought-after songwriter, Thurston’s songs have been recorded by Montgomery Gentry, Trace Adkins and Rodney Atkins (Fifteen Minutes and It Can All Be Gone). He is at work on his sixth CD.
