We are very excited to be offering this brand new class! Did you know that a mature American Alpine goat produces 1 gallon of milk a day? That makes a pound of cheese! Not to mention that goat milk can also be used to make yogurt, soap, and even ice cream Goats are also a great resource for brush clearing, fertilizer, meat, and being super cute! This class will cover all the basics: nutrition, milking, fencing, shelter, breeding, parasite management, common health concerns, and pasture management. Love Apple Farm is proud to host Ryan Andrus, Farm Manager, from Harley Farms Goat Dairy to teach this class.
Goats are very playful and friendly and make great pets. You don’t need a huge spread to keep 2 goats happy (they get lonely without a friend). Goats will continue to give milk for a few years after giving birth and are fun for the whole family! This class is a great complement to our Cheese Making Class.
The workshop is held at Love Apple Farm in Santa Cruz, California. Click here for farm directions and a map. If you’ve got questions before you register, you may contact us at loveapplefarm@gmail.com.
Ryan Andrus has been the Farm Manager at Harley Farms Goat Dairy for over four years where they milk 200 goats daily. His focus there is on farm-sustainability, herd management, and milk quality.
